Haman – pronounced “Hey man”
Yehudim, say to your enemies, “Hey man.”
The book of Esther brings attention to the fact that Haman, the King Ahasuerus’ viceroy, became so enraged that Yehudi (or Jew), Mordechai, Esther’s uncle, WOULD NOT BOW DOWN TO HIM that Haman sought to secure permission to destroy each and every Jew including women and little children.
Then Esther, the queen, a Yehudi, and Mordechai’s niece, learned of Haman’s plans to kill her people.
She promptly planned and organized 3 days of prayer and fasting in her castle and in her uncle’s community, then afterwards brought Hamas’ heinous plan to the attention of the king, her husband, claiming that these were her people, and that Mordechai had previously saved the king’s life.
The king then honoured Mordechai by making Mordechai his new viceroy, and to demand the Yehudim to gather and slaughter any who sought to slaughter them, and that Haman and his 10 sons were hung outside his palace, in the gallows originally erected for Mordechai.
The date scheduled for the mass-slaughter of the Jewish people, was chosen randomly by casting lots, also known as pur.
The Yehudim were very successful at defending themselves. Since then they have publicly celebrated the festival of Purim,
This story, which played out across Persia and Media of their time, out could very well be an initial reason why Jews are hated. That, and the festival of Purim is, to their enemies, basically a rude slap to the face, a reminder of their loss.
Many consider Haman to be their favourite hero…
